Carmen Awards for Education
The Carmen's Transport Design Award
Rui Guo ...for his imaginative, carefully considered and effectively delivered blueprint for a new, sustainable automotive culture in the world’s fastest growing consumer market, combining an electric vehicle with a nationwide driving competition, and for his other innovative urban travel concepts: the low footprint Euro utility vehicle, compact Icon personal mobility unit, and Shell rapid response ambulance with interchangeable 999 treatment modules - all evidencing a high standard of research, application, creativity and design skills.
The Carmen's Graduate Awards
Simon Latham, Imperial College ...for his singular focus on and examination of southbound tolling operations at the Dartford Crossing, whereby he has micro-simulated operations, using existing data and critical observation, related outcomes to comparative studies, and identified the means to improvements in two specific aspects, his work outstanding for its statistical analysis of both current useage and proposed variants, offering practical solutions to a real problem.
Tagmach Chankaya, Westminster ...for his timely investigation of potential emission reductions in the energy-intensive international hipping industry, the challenges this might pose, and the benefits and burdens to the industry. Against a background of climate change, he explored the issue from differing standpoints – ports, shipbuilder, emission experts and reduction practitioners, designer and shipping itself and identified long-term options, benefits and outcomes.
