The recipient this year was a troop commander In Kenya who supported the community, then found himself leading teams fighting large-scale fires – yet found time to climb Mount Kenya! Sent at short notice to the Falklands, he took a Captain’s roles in career management, sports and charitable fundraising. Back in the UK he was the temporary Squadron Operations Officer, preparing 1 Logistic Support Regiment’s deployment to Afghanistan, a role which became permanent on tour.

This year we honour someone who is a junior NCO in the Ammunition Technical Support Group. He passed his NCO course as top student and went on to score over 94% in an operator’s course, before deploying to Belize. There he conducted large-scale disposals, always the first to volunteer. In Afghanistan with the close support ammunition detachment, he assisted numerous demolitions, and then found himself facing a serious incident. In the largest unexploded ordnance clearance since World War II he marked dangerous ammunition scattered all over Camp Bastion airfield. Tested to the limit, he was second to none, the best NCO in that role on Operation Herrick. .

Identified from the start as a high flier, she took the lead, mentored peers, her dress, deportment and attitude exceptional. She scored 97% in the exams, and got the best student award. After more training, she took up her post in an operational movements squadron, a superb tradeswoman, who will rise rapidly through the ranks.

For six months as acting sergeant in the Operations Support Flight, he managed and mentored training for 147 drivers, and he developed 18 instructors. He implemented change, overcame resistance, saw the Squadron through its first external training audit, and trained and ran field operations on exercise.

The commander of C Flight is responsible for aircrew training for the Hercules replacement – the Atlas A400M. With a proven record as aviator, instructor and war-fighter, he selected and led the experts who advised MOD contractors, multinationals, and his chain of command. With a phenomenal workrate and outstanding intellect, his results are the keystone of 24 Squadron’s A400M output, and on top of that, by reviewing the multinational training centre in Spain, he has saved the RAF £600,000!

a truly outstanding logistician, who has delivered exceptional support for 22 minor warships of the Portsmouth Flotilla, served on operations worldwide, and made significant improvements in capability and availability. She has questioned policies and perceptions, devised a special report, and improved logistic support for displaced ships – and morale. She has challenged norms, added value - and left a lasting legacy in the minor warships community.

With her bravura performance over 18 months in the Forward Logistics Site team, she has led the movement of 2,000 personnel on and off RFA Mounts Bay, supported Middle East mine counter measures and back here led reservists supporting the Paralympics. She has worked with the French Navy, moved munitions in the Gulf, and supported the RAF in the Emirates. She also volunteered to teach reservists, and then went to Singapore to manage sea and air freight despatch
