The Carmen held their Livery and Awards Banquet at Mansion House on Tuesday 14th March 2017. In attendance were the Master, Marsha Rae Ratcliff and the Wardens, Patrick Marsland-Roberts and Stephen Britt. Alderman the Lord Mountevans with the Lady Mountevans stood in as the Lord Mayor's Representative. The Guest speaker was Sir Peter Hendy, Chairman of Network Rail, who was accompanied by his wife Sue.
It is customary at this event to present the Company’s prestigious Transport Awards. These well deserved awards rewarded excellence in several aspects of the Transport industry. They were much appreciated both by the recipients and the Carmen present.
The VIVA Shield went to Sir Norman Torquil and Gordon Murray. The Sir Henry Royce Award went to the Federation of British Historic Vehicle Club. The Environmental Award went to David Thomson from Forth Ports. The Award of Merit went to Cranfield University. The Herbert Crow Award went to the Institute of Road Transport Engineers. A Carmen's special award for their 500th Anniversary went to The Royal Mail.
There were speeches from the Master, Lord Mayor's Representative, Senior Warden and the principal guest, Sir Peter Hendy, who also proposed the traditional Company toast:
'The Worshipful Company of Carmen, Root and Branch,
may it Continue and Flourish forever'.
