PEEL Ports
in recognition of their major contribution in creating new environmental benefits from an historic infrastructure. Having previously acquired the historic Manchester Ship Canal, through creative and innovative policy development and substantial private investment, they have re-invigorated this ancient waterway to create a new resource for freight delivery into the heart of Manchester. Their development of new facilities along the Canal has seen a sixfold increase in container movements, saving over a million road miles alone in a single year and reducing CO2 emissions. This 21st century achievement has once again brought, waterborne transport right into the heart of a major city.
